2015 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Marcus Christy is a 2017 RHP/3B/1B with a 6-1 185 lb. frame from Mesa, AZ who attends Red Mountain HS. Solid build and frame, has strength throughout and projects well physically. Showcased a smooth delivery on the mound with good athleticism and mechanical repeatability. Overall solid command profile due to ease of mechanics and ability to repeat them. Very fast worker. High 3/4 slot, worked with a FB/SL/CH combo. Fastball thrown in the 80-83 range, touching 84, with good sink and run when located down in the zone. Very heavy pitch when commanded down. Generated a lot of weak contact ground balls by consistently throwing his fastball down and forcing hitters to beat it into the ground. Very good pitchability for age. Slider and change both had inconsistencies, but when on the slider showed good tilt with tight spin; and the changeup showed good fade with solid velocity separation. At bat, hits from balanced stance with a high hand set, loads with toe-tap mechanism. Swing will get rotational, and weight transfer lacks somewhat. Shows some good power during BP. Solid bat speed, pull-side approach but does show ability to use entire field. Showed good arm strength during defensive drills with easy arm action, waits back on ball well, smooth footwork with quality overall infield actions. Very good student.
