Deontae Grant is a 2018 OF/3B/RHP with a 6-1 195 lb. frame from Bushnell, FL who attends South Sumter. Large frame with broad shoulder and present strength. Ran a 6.96 sixty-yard dash. Primary outfielder with fundamental footwork while closing to the baseball. Clean glove actions while picking up the baseball and working through transition with smooth paced glove to hand exchanges. Short arm circle at separation and released from a compact three-quarters arm slot. Flashed solid arm whip at released producing good carry with accuracy to the bag, topped at 86 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and hanging leg lift trigger. Hands load to a deep position creating a slight bar before launching on a compact, direct path. Generated a line drive plane through extension that showed present bat speed and strength at contact. Aggressively turned the barrel to baseball with the intent to lift to the pull side gap. When on time and squared, baseball jumped off the barrel with solid carry. Also pitched showing a smooth paced side step delivery with a medium leg lift. Gathers well at balance point and lands at a slightly closed front side at finish. Created some cross fire action while releasing from a loose three-quarters arm slot that generated good running action with a fastball that topped at 80 miles per hour. Also flashed a curveball with good spin and depth when staying on top of offering and working the bottom of the strike zone. Shows good feel for the zone with the ability to consistently pound the inside edge of the plate with fastball. Good student.
