Kyle Higashioka is a 2008 C with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Huntington Beach, CA who attends Edison HS. He has a big, thick strong build and is physically mature. Higshioka is a high energy catcher who does everything well behind the plate. He threw 76 mph during drills with a best pop time of 1.98, but was 1.93 between innings and 1.91 during games. He has a quick transfer and quick hands receiving the ball. Offensively, Higashioka is a see ball, attack ball type of hitter who is very aggressive at the plate. He has a simple approach at the plate, opens quickly and puts a consistent hard swing on the ball. He shows pull power with some lift in his swing and has very nice bat speed. He's going to need to work on balance issues and will be susceptible to pitchers who can change speeds, but Higashioka looks like an offensive threat at a premium position who pitchers will respect. He plays very hard and has lots of fun on the field. Higashioka is also an excellent student who has a verbal commitment to UC Berkeley.
