Griffin Rivers is a 2016 OF/SS/RHP with a 6-2 185 lb. frame from Birmingham, AL who attends Pelham HS. Tall very athletic build, long limbs, has some present strength with lots of room to get stronger. 6.77 runner, has outstanding arm strength from both the infield and outfield, low arm slot from the outfield but makes accurate on line throws, arm action and length best suited for third base on the infield, athleticism will play all over the field. Switch hitter, looks more comfortable and natural from the right side at present, hits from an upright stance with good leverage and bat speed in his swing, more spread left handed with a big leg raise trigger and a softer inside hand path, has the bat speed and athleticism to hit with adjustments and repetitions. Also pitched and showed very good two-way potential, simple deliberate delivery, high 3/4's arm slot with good downhill angle, medium effort release. Fastball topped out at 88 mph and threw lots of strikes with it. Nice slider potential, stays behind the pitch well with sharp late bite, curveball tends to be cast with softer spin, could switch the use ratios of his slider and curveball to feature the slider more often. Very talented athlete who could develop at any position. Excellent student, signed with South Alabama.
