Tanner Smith is a 2018 RHP/MIF with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from Santee, CA who attends Valhalla HS. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.70 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher, short rock step to a waist high leg lift delivery. Reaches hands over head at top of delivery with a slight pause at balance point. Strides towards arm side edge of plate producing slight cross body arm action. Top half shows rotational actions while working to the plate. Releases from a low, extended three-quarters arm slot that creates good arm side run when located in the middle of the plate. Cuts the ball when working to glove side. Fastball has good life and comes out of hand cleanly topping at 83 mph. Curveball has 9/4 shape with sweeping actions and good depth. Maintains arm speed with curveball offering supplying sharp, late depth at times. Repeats delivery well with a smooth tempo. Commands both pitches, consistently pounding the bottom of the strike zone and working to the edges. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing consistent, fundamental footwork while surrounding and working through the baseball. Quick glove to hand exchanges while working through transfer. Good arm strength that produced solid carry to the bag topping at 80 mph. Right handed hitter with a straight, balanced stance. Loose, extended swing path to contact. Primarily showed a mid-field to opposite field approach. Hands stay inside baseball generating good extension through baseball when on time. Flashed bat speed and strength at contact when barrel came through the zone with smoothness and fluidity. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity and repetition. Very good student as well.
