2017 South Top Prospect Showcase
Bennett Laurence is a 2018 OF/RHP with a 5-9 170 lb. frame from Rockwall, TX who attends Rockwall HS. Medium frame with an athletic build and wiry strength. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 6.74 sixty-yard dash. Primary outfielder with smooth, deliberate footwork while closing to and working through the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling and working through exchange with fluidity. Loose arm circle and released from a long three-quarters slot. Throws generated on line carry to the bag topping at 88 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a balanced, even stance and large leg lift trigger. Shifts into contact with linear lower half actions. Loose path to contact with a naturally lifted barrel plane through extension. Swung with intent and generated good bat speed with strength at contact. Consistently worked to each gap but flashed the hand speed to turn barrel and work to pull side with authority. Also pitched working exclusively from the stretch. Simple leg lift and stays tall on back side at gather. Works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarter to near over top arm slot. Fastball produced solid downward angle through the zone in the mid 80's, topped at 85 miles per hour. Consistently looked to pound the bottom of the strike zone and flashed developing feel for each edge of the plate. Outstanding student.
