Cal Stalzer is a 2016 SS/RHP with a 5-10 155 lb. frame from West Des Moines, IA who attends Valley. Medium frame with present strength. Frame projects for added strength. At the plate shows a narrow stance with balance. Hands load to a deep postion and launch into a level, line drive swing plane. Batting practice and game showed a consistent mid-field approach that resulted in solid gap to gap contact. Swing and power potential project with future strength. Shows a 3/4 arm slot on throws from the infield. Creates good momentum and direction through baseball and throws downhill with accuracy across infield. Plus arm and shows ability to throw from multiple slots, topped at 85 mph. Very smooth, athletic actions to both sides and shows extended range. Surrounds and funnels well with a quick transition into release. Also pitched with a high 3/4 arm slot. Shows a high energy temp and arm action. Creates ome downhill angle with arm side run on fastball. Fastball ranged from 80-83 mph, topped at 84 mph. Curveball has 10/4 shape with sharp bite and depth, topped at 72 mph. Has a good feel for curveball offering with the ability to throw for stikes down in the zone. Tall and fall mechanics and repeats well. Fastball showed some heaviness and was able to stay of barrels. Flashed a change up at 76 mph. Changes speeds well and can mix and match pitches. Held velo through all innings of work. Good follow. Very good student as well.
