David Ortego is a 2015 RHP/3B/OF with a 6-2 165 lb. frame from Conroe, TX who attends The Woodlands HS. Tall and slender build, lots of room to get stronger. Long extended arm action, high 3/4's arm action with big backwards body lean to get his arm through, stays on line well for delivery type. Fastball topped out at 84 mph, mostly straight. Low 70's curveball has tight spin and good biting action with nice 11/5 shape, stays over it well. Developing change up. Projects to add velocity with additional strength. Right handed hitter, narrow open stance, lift and pull approach, swings hard and looks to drive the ball, hands come under the ball frequently but flashes pull power. Showed his arm strength from the outfield in drills. Good student.
