Walker Merritt is a 2018 RHP/3B with a 6-2 210 lb. frame from Powder Springs, GA who attends Harrison. Large frame with long limbs and present strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple, side step delivery. Stays balanced on back side at gather prior to driving to the plate and staying on line through finish. Short arm circle back at separation and releases from loose arm slot. Fastball showed late cutting action to glove side between 73-75 miles per hour. Late movement of fastball induced weak ground ball contact. Curveball had 11/5 shape with good rotation and some depth when located down in the strike zone. Very deceptive arm speed with changeup offering that matched fastball release. Changeup flashed same late cutting action as fastball. Changed speed effectively and consistently stayed off barrels of hitters. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing compact footwork while centering the baseball. Developing glove fluidity while funneling the baseball out front. Releases form a compact three-quarters arm slot that produced some carry across the infield at 70 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and reaching front side stride. Lower half works to baseball with rotational actions while hands launch on a loose, extended plane through extension. Showed best line drive contact when working to the middle of the field between the outfield gaps. Very good student.
