John Bender is a 2018 3B/RHP with a 6-1 210 lb. frame from Wilson, NY who attends Wilson Central HS. Large frame with a strong build and present strength. Ran a 7.74 sixty-yard dash. Primary third baseman with smooth paced, deliberate footwork while surrounding the baseball. Showed good first step angles allowing for good range to each side. Funnels the baseball cleanly from a slightly deeper position under body and works through transition with efficient actions. Released from a high three-quarters to a near over to slot creating on line carry across the infield at 79 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and high back elbow at load. Generated good shift into contact with linear lower half actions. Hands works through extension on a naturally lifted plane with present bat speed and strength at contact. Primarily worked for the middle to opposite side of the field and generate good jump off the barrel when separated at contact. Also pitcher showing a simple side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather while creating slight coil over back leg. Utilized lower half with drop and drive actions to the plate while landing in line with the plate and carrying momentum through finish. Medium arm circle back at separation and released from a three-quarters arm slot. Flashed good arm speed and arm whip with a fastball that showed occasional running action to arm side topping at 81 miles per hour. Curveball had 12/6 shape with tight spin and good depth down in the zone. Tends to slow arm speed at times with curveball offering, generated best downward bit when staying on top of pitch and maintaining arm speed. Outstanding student.
