2020 Gulf Coast Prospect Showcase
Cooper Cherry is a 2022 SS/RHP, 3B with a 5-10 155 lb. frame from Covington, LA who attends Fontainebleau. Medium frame with a young build showing some room to fill out physically down the road. Ran a 8.10 second sixty yard dash. Primary Shortstop, showing a good first step as he works athletically around the baseball. Gathers out front and then shuffles into throws. Was accurate from multiple slots as he thew it 79 mph during drills. Fundamentally sound and will make a jump with a physical strength gain. Secondary Right-Handed Pitcher, working with a side step to a balanced lift before he drops and drives. Released from a higher slot as he stayed direct to the plate. Filled up the zone and proved to have some pitchability. Fastball up to 77 mph as he worked both sides of the dish. Proved he could get on the hands of right-handed hitters as he sawed them off. Tight spinning slider as well in the mid-60's that he kept hitters off-balance with. Right-Handed Hitter, narrow base to start with high hands behind the ear. Low stride as he does a nice job of creating separation. Matched the plane with the barrel consistently as he proved he could backspin the baseball. Outstanding Student.
