Matthew Meyer is a 2017 LHP with a 6-1 165 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends Scripps Ranch HS. Large frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.18 sixty yard dash. Primary left handed pitcher with a short rock step to high leg kick delivery. Gathers well at balance point and stays tall on backside. Utilizes lower half well and generates good drive off backside when working to the plate. Front side lands at a slightly closed position creating some crossfire action at release. Upper half comes through with rotational actions effectively hiding the baseball through extension. Releases from an extended, low three-quarters arm slot. Fastball produces good life through the zone with occasional sinking action and arm side run. Shows good command of the fastball with the ability to spot up on both edges of the plate. Slider has 3/8 shape with solid sweep to glove side while maintaining arm speed through release. Slider is tough to pick up out of hand, potential swing and miss pitch. Mixed pitched well and did a good job of keeping hitter of balance each innings. Frame and arm action projects for additional velocity with continue physical development. Very good student as well.
