Matt Westphal is a 2016 C/1B with a 6-2 193 lb. frame from Sat Charles, MO who attends Lutheran HS. Big and strong athletic build, projects well physically. Good athlete behind the plate defensively, blocks balls well with good technique and quickness, gets low and has quickness, accurate throws with very good arm strength, release can get long with a pause at the top of his throwing motion. Also played first base and looked polished there with good hands and sound footwork. Right handed hitter, medium base with a limited stride into contact, rotational upper half swing, can use lower half better, line drive swing plane with an up the middle approach, has the strength to improve at the plate with adjustments. Very good student.
