Zach Smith is a 2018 1B/RHP, 3B with a 6-3 220 lb. frame from Jeffersonton, VA who attends Culpeper County. Large and athletic frame with a strong build. Primary first baseman. Receives the ball deep with a funnel to the body. Soft hands when fielding. Has a loose arm with a long stride at release. Pretty good arm strength with accurate carry across the diamond topping at 87 miles per hour. Footwork is clean when pivoting and when coming off the bag. Also worked out from the infield. Footwork is clean and fluid. Has a deeper arm circle at take back while releasing from a three-quarters arm slot. Exchange is a little slower paced but can make up for it with some good carry across. RIghthanded hitter with an upright and slightly open stance. Starts with a high back elbow and a simple leg lift trigger. Lower half has linear actions to the ball with good shift into contact. Utilizes a direct path to the ball with a smooth and slightly lifted barrel plane. Shows solid bat speed and swings with intent to drive the ball to the gaps. When squared the ball really jumps off the barrel and makes best contact when getting the bat head out front. Showed the ability to swing the bat hard while staying balanced throughout. Harford Community College commit. Named to the 2018 National Pre-Draft Showcase Top Prospect List.
