Oliver Hicks is a 2018 LHP/1B, OF with a 6-1 160 lb. frame from San Luis Obispo, CA who attends San Luis Obispo. Large frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional strength. Ran a 7.33 sixty yard dash. Primary left handed pitcher with a simple side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather and utilizes lower half well while driving to the plate with drop and drive actions. Front side lands a a slightly closed position creating some crossfire action at release. Medium arm circle straight back at released from a mid to low three-quarters arm slot. Fastball comes out of hand cleanly generating some running action to arm side between 77-81 miles per hour. Shows good feel for a slider with 2/8 shape with softer spin and some sweep to glove side. Flashed tighter rotation with late bite with working in the higher velocity band with slider. Also flashed a changeup, tends to slow arm speed slightly but locates down in the zone well in the low 70's. Primarily worked to the outside edge of the plate and consistently filled the strike zone. Also worked out defensively from first base showing smooth paced footwork while squaring up the baseball. Clean, deliberate glove to hand exchanges while working through transition. Released from a compact three-quarters arm slot that generated accurate, on line carry across the infield topping at 78 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with a crouched, slightly open stance and leg lift trigger. Lower half launches to contact with linear actions while hands stays on an inside path to contact. Barrel comes through the hitting zone on a level, line drive path that showed occasional leverage through extension when connection out front. Primarily used a mid-field approach, but flashed the ability to turn barrel to contact and drive the baseball to pull side as well. Outstanding student. Named to the 2016 Cal Underclass Top Prospect List.
