2006 PG Pitcher/Catcher Indoor-Feb 11-12
Brian Gass is a 2006 LHP/1B with a 6'1'', 205 lb. frame from O'Fallon IL, who attends O'Fallon HS. He has a strong, mature body and very good upper body strength. Gass has a quick paced delivery with a short arm action front and back. He hides the ball very well from the hitters and throws from a tight high 3/4's release point. He's well balanced in his delivery to his release point, although he seems to throw with more effort on his fastball than on his curveball, something that hitters at higher levels might pick up on. Gass's fastball was 82-84 mph consistently and pretty straight. His best pitch was a hard biting 71 mph curveball that has very tight spin and a big 12/6 break when he's on top of it. It's a swing and miss pitch for all hitters when he's putting it where he wants to. He should definitely dominate left handed hitters with it. Gass also threw a couple of 74 mph change ups. Gass also showed some ability with the bat, using his strength to generate good bat speed. He knows how to use his hands with wood and shows nice balance and leverage at contact. He smoked some balls in the cage off live pitching. Gass is a good student who has committed to go to Indiana State. He's the type of polished athlete who might be able to contribute right away at a Division I program.
