2005 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Corey Procopio is a 6-0, 215 lb senior right handed pitcher from Toronto with a strong, stout body. He throws from a simple, balanced step and turn delivery that enables him to use his lower half well. Procopio showed good arm strength with a fastball that was steadily 85-87 mph. He threw a large number of 87's and does so with little effort and stress on his arm. Procopio's 72-74 mph curveball had very tight spin and a late 10/4 type of sweeping break and can be a very good pitch for him. Procopio's 77 mph change up had good quality, also. He tended to pitch in the middle of the plate a bit and we got the impression that Procopio doesn't have much deception at the moment because he throws so easily, but he has a good arm and good stuff. His present stuff makes him a must follow for college coaches who recruit Canada. Procopio is also a good student.
