Cam McDonald is a 2018 SS/RHP with a 6-3 165 lb. frame from Ladd, IL who attends Hall HS. Large frame with long limbs and a lean build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.65 sixty yard dash. Primary shortstop with smooth, fundamental footwork while surrounding the baseball. Smooth, clean glove actions while funneling the baseball out front and working through transition. Shows good range while moving to each side while creating good momentum to the bag while working through the baseball. Present arm strength that produced very good on line carry to the bag topping at 84 mph across. Very athletic actions while closing and working through slow roller. Right handed hitter with a spread, straight stance. Creates slight coil and wrap with front side at load. Clears hips well with rotational lower half actions to contact. Compact, direct hand path to contact with a line drive plane through extension. Primarily used the middle of the field throughout batting practice flashing good bat speed and pop to the outfield gaps. Also pitching showing a simple side step delivery. Releases from a high energy three-quarters slot that generated some downward plane to the plate. Fastball sat in the low to mid 80's with occasional running actions, topped at 85 mph. Curveball had 11/5 shape with good spin and depth down in the zone. Repeated mechanics well while effectively filling the strike zone. Outstanding student. Named to the 2016 Midwest Underclass Showcase Top Prospect List.
