Alex Hernandez is a 2017 LHP with a 6-1 160 lb. frame from Brawley, CA who attends Brawley HS. Large frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects for additional strength with continued physical development. Ran a 7.61 sixty yard dash. Primary left handed pitcher with a short rock step delivery to waist high leg kick. Stays very balanced with fluid actions throughout delivery. Utilizes lower half well while striding to the plate. Front foot lands in line with the plate and easily clears hips. Hides the baseball well with releasing from a low, extended three-quarters arm slot. Ball comes out of hand easily with good life through the zone. Fastball has good arm side run with sinking action in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 82 mph. Consistently worked ahead in the count with fastball, challenging hitters and spotting on the outside edge of the plate. Slows arm speed slightly with a slider that has 3/8 shape with some sweep and depth. Also flashed good feel for a changeup. Created good extension with changeup offering that produced good depth and fading action late in the zone. Effectively missed barrel and induced weak ground ball contact when locating each pitch at the bottom of the zone. Good student as well.
