Eric O'Brien is a 2017 C with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from Sandy Spring, MD who attends St Johns College. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength to frame, has room to fill and grow stronger with physical gains. Primary catcher, smooth and athletic actions, works hard behind the plate in live action, does a nice job of gaining ground with lower half, quick transfer out of glove into a tight release, gets on top of throws and shows strength and carry out of hand to the second base bag. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high back elbow and hands away from body, remains balanced in the box. Raises hands at beginning of load, longer stride moving into contact with a short, line drive swing plane and quickness to hands. Nice feel for the barrel, occasionally gets extended out front and shows ability to generate line drive contact to all fields. Projects nicely with physical growth. Good student.
