Matthew Gross is a 2023 3B/RHP/IF with a 5-10 185 lb. frame from Marvin, NC who attends Marvin Ridge. Strong athletic build, especially for a sophomore. Right handed hitter, hits from a straight stance with a fluid and strong upper body driven swing, limited lower half shift at present into contact, has good extension to go with some lift in his swing, ball comes off the barrel hard and there is present bat speed, swung the bat well in the games and squared up balls hard. 7.13 runner in the sixty. Has a loose and easy arm in the infield on defense and projects well with his arm strength, compact arm action with a good transfer, has confidence in his glove and handles the ball cleanly. Took a turn on the mound, has sound athletic mechanics and works down the mound well. Fastball topped out at 80 mph with good sink at the plate, has been up to 83 mph earlier this fall at PG events, still developing feel for his curveball. Solid all around player and athlete who will continue to get better. Excellent student.
