Tariq Freeny is a 2022 C/MIF with a 5-7 145 lb. frame from Chandler, AZ who attends Mountain Pointe. Young, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill moving forward with physical growth. Ran an 8.17 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, slight turn behind the plate in drills, gains short ground with lower half coming out of crouch, quick transfer out of glove and shows similar quickness on release, high slot on throws, arm strength will continue to develop and actions project. Righthanded hitter, begins with an even stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing in the box, subtle weight shift through lower half. Remains balanced and can continue to incorporate additional lower half, linear path through the zone and shows a handle for the barrel. Opens front side at times, shows comfort working the middle and pull side parts of the field. Very good student.
