Scott Rudder is a 2007 right hand hitting catcher from Douglas Freeman HS, residing in Richmond, VA. He is physically strong with some thicker, powerful proportions on his 6'0" 185 lb. frame. Rudder possesses a decent combination of tools that profile well for the catcher position. At the plate he hits with a slightly open stance and shows good aggressiveness. He has a quick bat and can fire his lower half, incorporating more power into his swing. Rudder's barrel stays long through the zone, creating some plate coverage. He seemed to have a pull side approach and did show some power potential to the pull side. His approach and strengths should yield some home runs in the future. Behind the plate he showed off an arm that tracked well to 2nd base. His raw arm strength is approaching average while his exchange from glove to hand shows some promise. There were times that Rudders threw some pop times in the near average time range, slightly above 2.0. His arm plays better than his raw arm strength. Most catching coaches would have a solid opportunity to develop his defensive abilities. He is a college prospect, likely at the D1 level and has enough raw ability to keep an eye on him as a pro prospect as he plays and develops in college.
