Matt Birtman is a 2020 LHP/OF with a 5-9 150 lb. frame from Lake Forest, IL who attends Lake Forest HS. Recorded a 6.76 second 60-yard dash time. Lean, projectable frame with present athleticism and twitch to the build. Primary lefthanded pitcher with a loose, quick arm stroke and some effort at the point of release. Turns over the front side hard and direction could be improved somewhat. Fastball topped out at 83 mph with solid life. Works quickly on the mound and showed a sweeping slider with good two-plane action to it. Works the fastball to both sides with intent and can manipulate the shape of the breaking ball nicely. Arm strength plays nicely from secondary position of outfield. Lefthanded hitter with a spread open stance, high hand set, and a high back elbow. Short stride into contact with present bat speed. Very short swing with consistent line drive contact. High contact, high average approach that is executed well. Very good student.
