2006 California Underclass
Robby LeClair is a 2007 RHP/1B from Amador Valley HS, residing in Pleasanton, CA, with a 6'1" 180 lb. frame. He has a good body, though basically an average pitcher's build with athletic proportions. LeClair pitches from an over the top slot and has decent arm speed. He uses an up-down-out type delivery that is simple, keeping him over the rubber and allowing his arm to work. LeClair has decent body control and as he gains lower body power, he should continue to develop more velocity. As it is, he has an 81-84 mph FB that he kept down in the zone. LeClair showed aggressiveness with his FB and got his arm to decent extension toward the plate. He showed only the FB and no secondary pitches. A right handed hitter, LeClair got more comfortable as the BP round progressed. He displayed some balance and a ground ball approach. On defense LeClair showed quiet feet and decent accuracy as a thrower. He employs a trapping type approach on ground balls, working to secure the ball rather than worry about style points. LeClair should be considered a follow for small college programs based upon some arm strength potential and his body that may continue to gain strength. However, further evaluation is needed to check on the caliber of his secondary pitches.
