Joseph Sclama is a 2023 LHP/1B with a 5-11 220 lb. frame from Manchester, NJ who attends Manchester Twp. Medium, broad shouldered frame with present strength proportioned through frame. Ran a 7.82 60-yard dash. Primary left-handed pitcher, utilizes a full windup on the mound, competes on the mound and fills up the strike zone, works to a mostly three-quarters release point but occasionally gets lower. Able to miss plenty of bats during his outing, fastball topped out at 75 mph with short life through the zone. Slot keeps hitters off balance, mixes a short breaking ball up to 64 mph, around the zone with both pitches. Fields the ball out front at first base, shows agility to actions away from the bag and remains balanced on turns, extremely accurate with throws and shows ability to change arm slots. Left-handed hitter, begins with a wide and slightly open stance with a tight hand set and a high back elbow at the plate; employs a leg lift trigger for timing in the box. Rotational swing but incorporates strength well, smoothness to path through the zone when staying closed with front side. Worked to the middle of the field with line drive contact when on time, showed jump off the barrel in game with an opposite field double. Very good student.
