Deon Buckner is a 2023 SS/RHP with a 5-10 125 lb. frame from Washington, DC who attends Bishop Mcnamara. Young, square shouldered frame with long limbs and a lean, projectable build with a high waist and room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.12 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, fields the ball out front and works into a loose arm action, developing action with footwork and can work through the ball better moving forward, shows accuracy across the diamond and works on top of the ball, can drop slot with intent, projects with strength. Also pitched, shows nice tempo and timing to delivery working to a high three-quarters release point; fastball topped out at 75 mph, worked to both sides of the plate and showed running life. Will continue to gain velocity moving forward, shows nice hand speed on curveball with downer life up to 63 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a slightly open stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a high leg lift trigger for timing at the plate. Does a nice job of staying short and direct to the ball, employs a contact oriented approach with comfort working to the pull side. Occasionally gets uphill with path, stays mostly linear with a high finish, can incorporate additional lower half moving into contact.
