2023 National Indoor Showcase (Saturday)
Samuel Wyrick is a 2024 SS/RHP with a 5-11 180 lb. frame from Jefferson City, MO, who attends Helias. A bigger frame with some strength and physicality to his build. Ran a 6.95 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop whose feet carried him well with a very quick arm action across the diamond. The throws had strength behind it and were at 85 mph across. Showed off good footwork and a smooth funnel on the slow roller. Clean glove actions, smooth hands, and a strong arm. Good lateral range shown off as well. Just had a good amount of rhythm to his actions. A right-handed hitter with high-set hands and a high-back elbow. Kept a wider base, coiling up slightly as he loads up. Used a leg lift trigger with quick hands and strength through the zone. The ball jumped off the barrel with good contact to the middle of the field as he peppered the middle-back part of the cage in the air. Direct path with the barrel, taking the hands straight to it. Produced an 82 mph exit velocity as well during PG Tech testing. Took to the mound as a right-handed pitcher with a side-step delivery into a leg lift up above the belt. Pitched from a three-quarters arm slot with a medium stride down the slope. Controlled and athletic delivery with above-average arm speed. His fastball worked 85-89 mph and had burst through the zone. The heater spun up to 2,489 RPMs as well. It was a pitch that gets on hitters and was able to overpower them at times. Showed an 11-5 breaking ball with good shape to freeze hitters with late biting action. Threw that pitch at 68 mph with spin up to 2,295 RPMs. The fastball/curveball mix was a challenge for hitters, tunneling well out of the hand. He also showed a third offering in the changeup that had late drop, showing traits for a developing consistent third offering. Projects well on the mound with a developing pitch mix and plenty of athleticism in his delivery. Great student. Named to 2023 National Indoor (Saturday) Showcase TP List.
