2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Kevin Cannon is a 2008 OF/RHP with a 6'3'', 175 lb. frame from Oakland, CA who attends St. Mary's HS. He has a long, lanky body and a good frame that is quite projectable. Cannon is going to hit. His swing happens easily and he has a nice approach. What was really impressive was his at-bats against left hand pitchers. Cannon stayed closed and drove the ball to the opposite field which tells us that he has feel for hitting. His swing is inside/out, with the barrel staying behind his hands. When he starts to get stronger his power will play from gap to gap. He stayed on the curveball well too. Cannon has a loose arm and reads the ball off the bat well, with a nice approach to the ball. There is some carry on his throws and he has a solid arm that projects to get stronger. Cannon also pitched and did a nice job of pouring his 78-81 mph fastball down in the zone. He showed a curveball and a changeup but lived with the fastball. Cannon is the type of player that goes into a college program unknown and in a few years emerges as a strong draft prospect.
