2005 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Beatty is an athletic 5-11, 180 lb switch hitting outfielder from North Carolina who also plays infield. This young prospect can do a lot of things well on the baseball field. He took drills in the outfield and showed one of the strongest arms at the event at 87 mph. Beatty played more infield during the games, though, and is a solid defensive infielder who makes plays and shows athletic actions. He played especially well at shortstop. We'd recommend that he play as much infield as possible as it heightens the value of his bat to any team. Beatty shows bat speed from both sides of the plate and is a legit switch-hitter. We thought he had more raw bat speed from the right side but not as good of balance and swing fundamentals. From the left side he showed much more smoothness and balance. Beatty answered any questions we might have had about his left handed bat speed with a blast over the right centerfield fence during one game that went about 380'. Beatty also pitched late in the showcase and threw 80 mph with a 65 mph curveball. His mechanics were very raw and his arm strength in the field didn't translate completely. We also appreciated the way Beatty played the game; he's a hard worker and an enthusiastic young man on and off the field. He's also a very good student. Very good follow.
