2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Taylor is a 5-11 sophomore right handed pitcher from Florida who is also a promising hitting prospect. On the mound, Taylor throws from a low ¾’s release point with a long, flowing arm action in back. It looks like he does a good job of hiding the ball during his delivery and his release point gives his fastball and change up nice running and sinking life. Taylor started out throwing his fastball in the 81-83 mph range but quickly lost velocity on all his pitches and we suspect that he wasn’t in top pitching shape at this time of year. Taylor’s 69 mph change up was a good pitch for him and his 70-73 mph breaking ball had good velocity and a slurve type of break. As a hitter, Taylor has a closed stance with good coil and load and busy hands. In batting practice he had an aggressive pull type of swing and really put a charge into a few balls, showing plus bat speed, especially for a sophomore prospect. As Taylor gets stronger he should definitely keep his mind on hitting as well as pitching from what we saw. Taylor is a good student as well.
