Hudson P. Mitchell is a 2024 C/RHP/IF with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Conroe, TX who attends Oak Ridge HS. Hudson is a young player who is just now coming into his own as both an athlete and a baseball player. His effort level is consistently commendable and his desire to improve is noticeable. He is also a sound student as evidenced by his scholarly record. He ran an 8.40 60 yard dash. A primary catcher, Hudson showed sound fundamental ability that should allow for marked improvement as he continues to mature physically and gain advanced experience on the diamond. The tools are there. His mechanical operation from behind the plate is sound. He sets up well and his hands are sure. His transition to throw is very deliberate, but highly certain. As he continues to practice and play more at the HS level, this will get even better. His 63 mph throwing velocity and 2.31 pop time form a sound base and are both good starting spots that point towards solid improvement moving forward. He gets it it and it is obvious Hudson has the drive and determination to get even better as a catcher. In the infield, Hudson again has the fundamental approach that should continue to help in his development as a player. His footwork allows him to position well and his glove is soft and easy. He transitions well and 67 mph throws are routinely accurate. His throwing velocity will get there as he gains strength. His arm action works and that is the key. On the mound, Hudson is still a work in progress. His operation is fairly simple and he works down the slope well. His 61-65 mph fastball was thrown to the edges of the plate quite consistently. His 58 mph curveball shows the makings of becoming a sound secondary offering. Again, it comes back to added strength and maturing physically. For Hudson, that WILL come. At the plate, Hudson starts with a wide base. He incorporates a rock back load and appears to be completely in control of his swing operation. He gets his bat to and through contact using a flatter swing plane. He does make consistent contact. Hudson is a try-hard guy who has the basic skills to elevate his game. His drive and determination are very evident. His passion for the sport is unquestionably there and will continually push him to improve. It is very obvious, to even the most casual observer, that Hudson loves to play baseball.
