2023 California Workout Showcase (Sunday)
Alex Byun is a 2025 C/RHP with a 5-10 175 lb. frame from Brea, CA who attends Servite. Medium, athletic looking frame with a high waist, long levers and lean muscle throughout. Recorded a 7.58 second sixty-yard dash time. Primary catcher that receives from a slightly side-saddled stance with softness to his hands and quick footwork out of the crouch. Gains ground towards his target quick and efficiently, while working into an over-the-top arm slot. Displayed a quick, direct midline transfer and maintains good direction through release. Recorded arm strength up to 75 mph from behind the plate during drills. Secondary right-handed pitcher that worked from an abbreviated windup with big side-step rocker, higher leg lift into balance and shorter stride out to foot strike. Fastball worked in the upper-70s for the majority of his outing and topped out at 80 mph from a an over-the-top arm slot. Mixed in a more traditional 12-6 shaped curveball with vertical depth to it and split-finger as his secondary offerings. Split-finger offers good speed differential and is a viable out pitch. Will continue to improve with proper mechanical refinements and additional velocity. Right-handed hitter that hits from a spread stance with a high, tight hand set and toe-tap trigger. Middle-of-the field approach with some present bat speed and strength in his hands. Flashed pullside power potential, as he impacted the baseball with authority to this side on occasion, will continue to improve with proper swing adjustments and some refinement. Strong, athletic prospect with upside on both sides of the baseball. Excellent Student.
