2022 PG Softball Winter Scouting Combine - Iowa
Avery Kies is a 5-foot-4, class of 2024 OF/1B from North Liberty, IA who attends Regina Catholic HS. Avery is an immensely talented, athletic player who, with continued development should have a chance to play at a much higher level once her HS and travel ball days are over. In addition to her obvious talent on the diamond, Avery is also a top achiever in the classroom. She ran a 5.50 40-yard dash and was timed at 3.38 from home to first. She also posted a noteworthy 6'7 standing broad jump. A primary OF, Avery can cover some ground. She is twitchy and strong, and her first step quickness is anything but ordinary. She positions quickly and confidently and plays through the fielding action with gathering momentum. Her hands are soft, her glove sure, making her fielding operation upper level. She creates effective directional momentum towards her target and unleashes powerful throws that are routinely clocked at 62-mph. Her throws hold their plane and are noticeably firm and accurate. Big upside on defense. Offensively, Avery is a switch hitter who shows special projectable ability from the left side. She starts in an even and balanced stance. She is a natural bunter who executes the short game with knowledge and understanding. She is a slapper with plus actions. She doesn't run from or rush through contact. Timing is impeccable. Flatter path and impacts the ball with complete control of the barrel. Her actions play. Definite top-of-the-order hitter. Avery is well on her way to a very successful career. With continued attention to detail, added strength and agility, as well as exposure to the highest competition available, she could have the chance to choose her future landing spot at the college level. Not many, if any, holes in her game. Highly projectable and very talented player.
