Andrew Johnston is a 2023 C/RHP with a 6-0 198 lb. frame from Toronto, ON who attends Silverthorn. Recorded a 7.71 second sixty-yard dash time. Strongly built frame with athletic look and some present strength. Primary catcher that works from a side-saddled stance with relatively soft hands out in front, gaining ground towards his target with some quickness to his footwork. Incorporates strong lower half to explode out of the crouch, flashing quick mid-line transfers into a slightly uphill release. Recorded arm strength up to 78 mph from behind the plate during drills. Secondary right-handed pitcher that works from a simple delivery, engaging his lower well down the slope and repeating his mechanics effortlessly. Fastball worked in the upper-70s for most of his outing, topping out at 81 mph in this look from a high three-quarters arm slot. Nice two-pitch mix with velocity projection and curveball that flashes good current spin traits to it's 12-6 shape. Will continue to improve with additional arm strength and minor refinements of delivery. Right-handed hitter that hits from an upright, slightly open stance with an even hand set, high back elbow and hover trigger. All fields approach with intent based swing and strong hands through impact. Displayed fairly consistent bat-to-ball skills with developing feel for the barrel and the ability to adjust his hands well. Calm, controlled swing mechanics with lower half torque and some leverage out in front. Will continue to improve with proper swing adjustments, additional strength and maturity. Good Student.
