Max Smaldino is a 2027 RHP/1B, 3B with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Ladera Ranch, CA who attends JSerra Catholic. Features a taller and lean build. Ran an 8.09 60-yd dash. Worked out at SS and 1B. SS actions were raw where his feet/glove play better at 1B currently. Avg. foot quickness/range but showed glove feel displaying it early and fielding it clean at reception. Arm is shorter out the back with easy effort to release that showed some quickness on DPs. Decent footwork around the bag during gameplay. At the plate, he sits in a balanced stance and uses a shorter/simple forward stride. Hands takeback and load the bat into a flatter barrel position at launch. Has present bat speed but with present effort to the swing that had inconsistency of timing and finding barrel throughout his round. On the mound, he side steps into a belt high knee lift where his shoulders/torso lean forward to create some slight crossfire into lower ¾ slot and at times a side arm slot. Arm works into a clean/continous circle in the back. His fastball worked up to 81 with some natural armside run. Mixed in an upper 60s breaking ball that showed bigger/sharp break (2200+) and a quality low 70s changeup that had quality fading action. Named to Top Prospects List.
