2007 California Underclass Showcase
Jaime Vega is a 2009 SS/2B/P with a 5'11'', 150 lb. frame from Monterey CA, who attends Palma HS. Vegas very easily could have been named a top prospect if the '09 list would have been bigger than five players. He has the tools and ability to be a very high level college player and someday should get some professional interest. Vega is a wiry, lean and athletically built player whose abilities and skills will stand out more and more as he gets stronger. He has feel for the game and is quite polished for a young player. Offensively Vega has good bat speed and a simple, quiet approach. His hands work well and he hits line drives to all fields. He should hit for consistently high average, with some doubles. Defensively Vega shows high skill level. He has good body control, soft hands, a quick release, good range and instincts and is an accurate thrower. His arm is good and will continue to get better. There is nothing to suggest he cannot play up the middle at the D1 level and his defense along will get him playing time early in his college career.
