Ohio Valley Qualifier Scout Notes: Day 1 & 2

In the first-ever Ohio Valley Qualifier, teams from around the general lower Midwest flocked to the Cincinnati area to compete for a bid to the WWBA World Championship, to be held in Fort Myers in mid-October. We’ll be doing two scouting breakdowns of the event, this one covering the action from Friday-Saturday, and a second one covering Sunday-Monday.


FB20-Brewers Scout Team came into the event with a loaded roster, and have played in two close games thus far. They lost on opening night to RBA by a score of 5-3. Quinn Benner (2022, Terrace Park, Ohio) got the start, and the College of Charleston commit showed solidly, especially with his strike-throwing. With a slender and projectable build, the righthander ran his fastball up to 85 mph and sat a half-tick lower than that, pounding the zone with a fastball that featured good angle as well as an 11/5-shaped curveball that had good depth. His defense didn’t really help him all that much, and he/Brewers Scout fell into an early hole that they just couldn’t quite climb out of.
